Rev 1:10 I Was in the Spirit on 'the Lord’s Day'

by Chuck Henry
Rev 1:9-11 (NKJV)

9 I, John, both your brother and companion in the tribulation and kingdom and patience of Yahshua Messiah, was on the island that is called Patmos for the word of Yahweh and for the testimony of Yahshua Messiah.

10 I was in the Spirit on the “Lord’s Day,” and I heard behind me a loud voice, as of a trumpet,

11 saying, “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last,” and, “What you see, write in a book and send it to the seven assemblies which are in Asia: to Ephesus, to Smyrna, to Pergamos, to Thyatira, to Sardis, to Philadelphia, and to Laodicea.”

Many may suppose that John was here stating that it was on a Sunday that he heard and saw of the things which comprise the book of Revelation.

First of all, Yahshua the Messiah Himself told us that he is Lord (or Master) of the Sabbath day (Mat 12:8; Mar 2:28; Luk 6:5), which is the seventh day of the week (Gen 2:2-3). Sunday is the first day of the week and is one of the common 6 working days of the week. Therefore, if John was telling us that it was on a certain day of the week on which he saw the Revelation, it would be the seventh day, not the first.

However, by examining many Scripture references that refer to “the Lord’s day,” or, more accurately, “the day of Yahweh,” it can be seen that John was referring to the fact that he was in the Spirit and saw and heard the things which will take place during the great and terrible day of Yahweh, which is a time of judgment. This fits perfectly with the things that were revealed to John, and thus to us, in the book of Revelation.
